Tax Returns (Self Assessment & MTD)
A Self Assessment tax return is HMRC’s way of reporting income that is not taxed automatically through PAYE. For many sole traders and landlords, this is now transitioning into Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, which requires digital
record-keeping and quarterly updates (where applicable).
If you’re required to submit a return, it must be accurate and filed on time to avoid penalties. At Picco Accounting Ltd, we manage the process carefully, ensuring the correct information is included, figures are checked, and you know exactly what needs to be paid — and when.
Who needs to submit a tax return / use MTD?
You may need to file a tax return (and may fall under MTD rules) if you:
-
Are self-employed (sole trader)
-
Earn income outside PAYE
-
Receive rental or property income
-
Have more than one source of income
-
Have been asked by HMRC to submit a return
If you’re not sure what applies to you, we can confirm this and explain the next steps.
